FS Season Predictions

How great is it to see F1 cars back on track?! We have some beautiful new livery’s, new team names and even new faces!

2021 testing started yesterday and we got to see the cars take to the track for the first time this season. As always with testing, there was just a lot of driving in circles testing new components of the car and investigating aerodynamics, down force and DRS. It is important for the teams to do this so that they can see if changed areas are performing as planned or if there are some slight tweaks to be made in preparation for the championship beginning very shortly. We suspected that testing would follow its usual path of Merc, RBR and Ferrari being within the top 3, however, following Mercs Friday and Saturday mishaps and then McLarens storm we could be very wrong. The papaya MCL35M was looking fiercely fast and we are so looking forward to seeing them push further this year. With the sand covering the track it was no wonder we saw a few spins and for the Tifosi there was heartbreak early on with Charles being the first Red Flag of the test – will their luck turn around?

Anyway, here are our predictions for the upcoming season, let us know yours!

10 – HAAS

Really, we feel that the team is in a poor position to even fight off the Williams this year and with 2 rookies who have no experience of getting the most out of a car; this may just be the nail in the coffin. We would like to see them prove us wrong but with last year’s poor performance we are just not hopeful!

9 – WILLIAMS

We wish we could rate them higher but sadly with no points last season it doesn’t look likely unless we have a miracle. However, with George Russell’s impressive drive in the Merc showcasing his skills and managing to get the car out of Q3 on multiple occasions last season then who knows?!

8 – ALPHA ROMEO

It is a very comfortable 8th place for Kimi and Antonio’s team. Wil not much progression last season along with their average laps during testing it will be surprising to see them any further up the table. The two drivers are very consistent but unfortunately, they are just short of reaching the points most of the time. Perhaps we will see a few high points finishes but that depends if there is a scuffle further up the field.

7 - ALPINE

IMG_8586.jpeg

The team are off to an average start with a few mistakes made and Alonso seemingly struggling to get back into the swing of things (it probably doesn’t help that he had an accident over the winter break and he has titanium plates in his jaw). Ocon is perhaps just getting used to the new car set up as well but neither driver looks overly confident in the stunning Alpine. Let’s hope that Alonso’s experience allows him to overcome these initial difficulties and that Ocon can follow suit.

6 – ALPHA TAURI

These guys made a great impression throughout testing with Pierre getting lots of laps in the bag early and Yuki showing great promise and settling in very nicely. Last year the team were strong in the midfield so let’s hope they can continue this run into the 2021 season. We think that Pierre’s strong mind-set and extra experience will help and will hopefully rub off on Yuki to make this duo fierce competition.

5- FERRARI

IMG_8574.jpeg

As we all know the team have been struggling the past few years and it seems this may be the case again for 2021. Charles has had an engine issue already and Carlos seems very tentative in the Ferrari; we are not sure if this is because he is nervous due to being in a new team and car or if the car just feels unstable and unreliable. This is Ferraris youngest ever duo but both drivers have great skill, we are hopeful that the team can produce a fighting car to allow double C to showcase their abilities.

4 – ASTON MARTIN

IMG_8587.jpeg

Firstly, wow, how great is it to see racing green colours back on track?! The car is absolutely gorgeous and seems to be producing expected results. Saturday did see a gear box issue for Seb – a Mercedes gear box we may add… Stroll and Seb seem like a great duo and we are hopeful that after his awful run last year Seb will have more luck. Time will tell if this iconic British team will be able to infiltrate the podium!

3 – MCLAREN

IMG_8581.jpeg

We all knew that McLaren were improving but after testing it seems more and more likely that a win will be coming their way this season! The two drivers seem super comfortable in the papaya car and the improvements of the Mercedes engine should work wonders towards their fight to the top of the grid. Daniel initially struggled following his move to Renault so we hope that this promising start at testing will follow as the season begins.

2 – RED BULL

IMG_8577.jpeg

OF course these guys are going to push the mercs this year and with Perez in the second bull it seems they couldn’t have a stronger duo. Both drivers have good experience with a powerful machine under them, we have no doubts the bulls will be on a fair few podiums this year, but, will it be Max or Checo on top?

1 – MERCEDES

IMG_8584.jpeg

Well, well, well. Do we expect anything else? They have dominated the season over the last 5+ years, can anyone pip them to the world championship? The duo work well together to get consistent results and surely Sir Lewis will be pushing to get that 8th title and Bottas will be pushing to prove his worth whilst we all question who will be in the coveted 2nd Merc seat next year. Good luck team.
