Give Lance a Chance

“Daddy’s money”. A statement that follows the racing driver Lance Stroll wherever he goes. There has always been speculation, even accusations, around whether Lance got into the racing world of F1 with his fathers wealth or on his pure pace?

Lance Stroll is the son of Canadian businessman and billionaire Lawrence Stroll. Lawrence Stroll is also a part owner of BWT Racing Point F1 team, the team that just so happens to have Lance Stroll in its driver line-up.

While it does seem as though Lance has a seat at Racing Point because of his father, we strongly believe Lance Stroll deserves his seat in F1.

Lance Stroll’s career in single-seat racing has been extremely underrated with many disregarding any of his previous achievements before Formula One. At just 11 years old Stroll was signed to the infamous Ferrari Driver Academy. Aged at just 15 Lance won the Italian title of Formula 4 in his first year. Lance also added to his list of victories winning the European F3 Championship at 17. 2015 also saw the Canadian leaving the Ferrari Driver Academy to join Williams F1 team as a development driver, which would eventually see him take a place next to Felipe Massa in their 2017 driver line-up. In his rookie season with Williams Stroll took his maiden F1 podium, becoming the second youngest podium sitter in F1 history!

Having his dad be so heavily involved in his team and career has almost caused a hindrance in Lance’s career. Lance and his achievements are often undermined because of his dads presence, the idea that he “bought” his way into F1 completely overshadows his skill and pure pace that helped him get to where he is now. No one can get into F1 with just money, you need to have undeniable talent and Lance has just that. Formula one consists of the top 20 drivers in the world. Lance Stroll would not have survived this long in the racing series if he didn’t belong in it.

For example, so far this season, Lance Stroll has managed to collate 57 points, even gaining a podium in Monza, from the 7 races he has finished this year after facing 2 DNFs (Austria & Tuscany). These results do not appear from thin air they take experience.
