The New Race Calendar…
After months of uncertainty, we have been blessed with (although small) a race calendar!!! This new race calendar, that begins in 13 days, features 8 races all based in Europe with 2 races in Austria and 2 races in the UK. Amongst this excitement there has also been the sad news of the upcoming Grand Prix’s in Singapore (the only night race L), Azerbaijan (originally postponed) and Japan, are cancelled. With further races to be announce in the coming weeks, there has been much speculation about what races might also be part of the calendar this year! Here are 3 speculated tracks we think could be a great addition to the race calendar this year.
Istanbul Park, Turkey
The home of the Turkish Grand Prix from 2005 to 2011 is top of our list to return to F1’s 2020 race calendar. The circuit is missed by many fans as it always had good racing action, it was a fast circuit and its famous Turn 8. Although the track has not been used for a large event in 6 years it would be great to see the track return even for a year to give us a bit of nostalgia back to the 00s/10s for one weekend.
Losail International Circuit, Qatar
This next track may have not seen F1 cars on it before but the circuit has hosted several motorsports events such as MotoGP, GP2 and World Touring Cars. Although the track layout is one that is not particularly our favourite, it has all the facilities to be able to host a race if needed. The track also has the possibility of hosting a night race which could (slightly) make up for the cancellation of the Singapore GP (we’re still crying). The option of going to Qatar, Bahrain and then Abu Dhabi could be great to squeeze in some last minute races in the middle east to fill up the race calendar.
Aragon, Spain
This final circuit is one that could provide quite a thrilling race. The track has interesting corners, long straights and elevation changes and promising weather. The circuit is fairly modern with only being built in the late 2000s, the circuit could be a great option if Barcelona can’t reschedule this season.
Whether these circuits appear in the race calendar or not, we are beyond excited to have F1 back! We cant wait to see what this season holds with several circuits like Austria suiting Max Verstappen and another being Silverstone that suits Lewis Hamilton, we could be in for a thrilling season. With the minimum races needed for a season being 8, we are hoping there is plenty more races than the 8 we have confirmed for 2020 so far.
